Question by SwEeTness!: Is it easy to learn French if you learn Spanish, and vice versa?
Know French = Easier to learn Spanish.
Know Spanish = Easier to learn French.
Is this true? One of my Spanish teachers told me so, she learned French VERY easily.
I want to know because I’ve taken 3 years of Spanish in high school, and I want to move onto learn French, Arabic, and maybe Greek.
Thank you. :)

It depends on how easily you can pick up a language. Some of my fellow students in my Spanish class took French, but they were mixing up Spanish with French, because they are rather similar languages, which is probably why they say it is easier to learn one when you know the other.

Yes, as they’re in the same language family. The most important thing when trying a new language is to not speak with your own accent, to try to get the accent of the language, or it just won’t work. A French person speaking Spanish with a French accent, for example, just doesn’t work. Another important thing to remember is that you can’t always translate what it is you’re trying to say literally. Do what you can to hear (and expose yourself to) the language as much as possible–movies, a language group, newspapers.

….Roy is almost right.
Know Spanish = Easier to learn ITALIAN [ TRUE] (I agree with him)
The pronunciation of our languages is the same (I speak Spanish), and the grammar is almost 100% the same.
Know Spanish = Easier to learn CATALAN [ TRUE] It’s true, In fact we understand Catalan naturally, it sounds like Spanish Spanish.
Know Spanish = Easier to learn PORTUGUESE [Only in the grammar]
I agree with him again. The grammar is easier for us, the Portuguese grammar. But its pronunciation is harder.
Know Spanish = Easier to learn FRENCH [ FALSE, French and English have the same difficulty level for a native Spanish speaker]
I disagree…
French is much more difficult than English.
English is a language very easy to learn for us. The pronunciation is the hard part, but its grammar is reaaaally easy for us romance language speakers.
